Wotnot featured image

Wotnot

Australia · Est. 2004 · Mid-range

WotNot is an Australian natural skincare and suncare brand that has been working since 2004, making it a genuine pioneer in a category most brands entered a decade later. Australian-made and Australian-owned, it is best known for natural clear zinc sunscreen, a product that solved the chalky white cast problem long before the mainstream managed it. The range covers suncare, facial skincare, body care and a well-regarded baby and family line including wipes and lotions, all built on what the brand calls low-tox, toxin-free formulation. Its own summary, one hundred percent what is good and zero percent what is not, describes the approach accurately. Organic credentials are genuine and verified: many of the organic oils and select formulas are certified by Australian Certified Organic and to the COSMOS Organic standard, independent third-party certifications rather than marketing language. Formulations contain no parabens, SLS or SLES, synthetic fragrances, PEGs, petrochemicals, artificial preservatives or nano-particles. Most of the range is vegan-friendly, with the natural baby and family sunscreens containing beeswax as the stated exception, and WotNot does not test on animals. Packaging uses recycled materials and is recyclable, the wipes are made from one hundred percent bamboo and are compostable, and nappy bags are made from GMO-free cornstarch that breaks down over time. The brand also donates a portion of purchases to Women's Community Shelters. JUNOCO featured image

JUNOCO

United States · Est. 2018 · Affordable

JUNOCO is an affordable American skincare brand developed in California, and it has built a real following on one idea. Skincare should not feel like homework. The brand argues that most products overcomplicate something that ought to feel good, so it makes things you will actually reach for every day. That sounds like marketing until you use the products, which are unusually pleasant to apply. The breakthrough was the Jade Clean 10 Cleansing Balm. It went viral, and it is still the hero, a ten-ingredient balm that melts makeup and sunscreen without leaving a film. It sits alongside the Jade Clarifying Cleansing Powder, the Full Body Nectar Serum, The Body Oil Rinse and the Nail and Cuticle Polishing Gloss. Every product is 100% vegan and cruelty free, with no animal-derived ingredients and no animal testing. Formulas are gluten free and suitable for sensitive skin. Where JUNOCO really stands out is packaging honesty. Refill pods cut plastic use by 78%, and the pods are recyclable polypropylene. The Full Body Nectar Serum and Body Oil Rinse use 50% post-consumer recycled PET. Cartons are FSC certified paper printed with soy ink, and the interior trays are 100% paper. The brand also states plainly which parts are not recyclable, including certain pumps and caps. That kind of disclosure is rare. Prices run from $10.99 to $26. For American beauty, affordable beauty, vegan beauty, cruelty-free beauty or zero-waste routines, JUNOCO offers a genuinely easy place to start. The textures are lovely. The prices are kind.

MESSAGE featured image

MESSAGE

USA · Est. 2023 · Mid-range

MESSAGE started because Meghan Whitney Higney kept finding footwear that looked fine on a shelf and fell apart on a real foot. She had run True Botanicals and knew how to build a small brand, so she put in about $500k of her own money, raised under $1m from angels, and set out to make shoes around how feet actually move. The trick is the upper. Hugflex is a patented stretch fabric that grips without squeezing, so a slide stays put when you walk and still feels like socks. Underneath sits barecork: Portuguese wine-cork offcuts that would otherwise be waste, cut into a footbed that cushions and breathes. Sheepskin slippers use the same idea for colder months. Everything is made in small batches by family workshops near Porto, close to the cork and the people who cut it. That setup is why the brand feels different from a typical DTC shoe drop. There is no seasonal colour chase, no 40-SKU wall. The catalogue stays short on purpose, so each pair can be finished by hand and still priced in a range people will actually buy twice. Nordstrom stocking it helped, but the quieter win is repeat buyers who say the cork bed is the first one that does not go flat after a month. Press from Fast Company, Harper's Bazaar, Esquire, Elle, and Travel + Leisure noticed the cork story first. The real test is simpler: put them on, walk a few blocks, and notice you stop thinking about your feet. That is the brief Higney started with, and it is still the one MESSAGE is built around.

XíRENA featured image

XíRENA

USA · Est. 2013 · Mid-range

XíRENA is an American minimalist clothing label for women, founded in Los Angeles in 2013 by creative director Dierdre Roffoni with her husband Tony Graham. The couple are the fashion veterans behind Findings, the multi-brand showroom founded in 1989 that represents labels such as Isabel Marant and Ulla Johnson. Roffoni was inspired on holiday in Formentera, Spain, by local girls riding Vespas in white shirts, and the name comes from sirena, Spanish for mermaid. Xírena began with colourful cotton lingerie and then set out to make the perfect white shirt. Its signature Beau shirt, a relaxed cotton poplin button-down, sits alongside the Channing and Scout shirts, gauze dresses, knits, denim, swimwear and accessories. Most of the collection is made in the USA, in Los Angeles. The label's philosophy is clothes made to live in, with effortless, slightly rumpled cotton poplin, gauze, linen and silk. Its design and sample studio is in LA's Fashion District, and fabric for its printed lingerie has been sourced from upcycled material. Xírena is sold at more than 500 retail doors, including Merci in Paris and Fred Segal in Los Angeles, and opened its first store at Palisades Village.
