Hidden Indigo

Spotlight

Hidden Indigo

Clothing · Guiyang, Guizhou, China · Est. 2025

Hidden Indigo is a small, artisan-led brand preserving the traditional Miao batik craft of Guizhou, China. Built by a team of three based in Guiyang, the label works closely with Zhang Shixiu, a recognized inheritor of Miao batik and founder of the Mingxiu Batik Workshop in Paimo Village, and the women artisans in her workshop. Every piece is made using the traditional six-step wax-resist dyeing process: hand-drawing hot wax onto cloth, repeated indigo dipping, wax removal, and natural drying. The result is a range of bags, scarves, hats, jewelry, and home décor, each bearing the natural variation that comes from being entirely hand-drawn rather than mass-produced. Hidden Indigo's mission centers on keeping this heritage craft alive by putting it into everyday, wearable objects rather than freezing it as museum pieces. The brand grows deliberately slowly, framing each purchase as direct support for artisan livelihoods and the continuation of a fading tradition, summed up in its own words: "Blue, made slowly."

KAVYA POTLURI

India · Est. 2020 · Luxury

KAVYA POTLURI creates jewellery for the part of a look people remember. Launched in 2020 by Hyderabad-based designer Kavya Potluri, the demi-fine label is recognised for elaborate ear cuffs, talon rings, headgear and other high-fashion statement pieces. Its designs combine filigree-inspired detailing with fantastical forms, transforming familiar Indian jewellery references into something theatrical and contemporary. Kavya trained at Singapore’s Raffles Design Institute and the Gemological Institute of America before establishing her namesake label. Every piece is personally designed by Kavya and handcrafted in-house by skilled artisans, from the first sketch to the final polish. Named to Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia in 2023, she continues to explore jewellery as wearable art rather than a conventional finishing touch.

Rituel de Fille featured image

Rituel de Fille

United States · Est. 2014 · Luxury

Rituel de Fille is an American beauty brand with a French name and a genuinely singular imagination. Created by sisters Caroline and Katherine Ramos and launched in 2014 after years of development that began in their own kitchens, it is based in Los Angeles and remains independently owned and operated. Its guiding idea, ancient pigment and modern colour, treats makeup as ritual rather than routine. The products are built around raw, elemental pigments including natural carmine and mineral colour, producing shades with a depth and complexity that mass manufacturing tends to flatten out. The brand describes its aesthetic as the convergence of the ancient and the avant-garde, calls its customers Rituelists and runs a Pro Artists Programme for working makeup artists. Because the formulations use carmine and beeswax, the range is not vegan, which the brand states openly on its own ingredients page rather than obscuring. Everything else is unusually rigorous. Rituel de Fille is both Leaping Bunny and PETA certified cruelty-free, testing at no phase of development, manufacturing or release, and it takes care to ensure raw materials come from sources using ethical labour practices. Production is genuinely artisanal: products are crafted by hand in small batches by a dedicated circle of artisans, and have been since 2014. Priced in the luxury tier, this is a brand for people who want natural colour with real character. For anyone seeking handmade, small-batch, ethically sourced and certified cruelty-free American beauty from a women-owned independent, it has no direct equivalent.
